Research Protocol: Neuromuscular Integrity

The Mortality Proxy

Extensive studies (UK Biobank/PURE) demonstrate that grip strength is a more accurate predictor of cardiovascular health and all-cause mortality than systolic blood pressure in the 50+ cohort. It measures the integrity of the Neuromuscular Junction (NMJ), the system that bridges nerve signals to muscle action.

Athletic Standards (KG)

  • Elite: 54+ kg
  • High Performance: 46 - 53 kg
  • Optimal: 38 - 45 kg
  • At Risk: < 28 kg

Female athletes: Optimal range is 28-35kg. Elite is 36kg+. Scores below 18kg indicate clinical sarcopenia risk.
