Operational Protocol: Sarcopenia Defense
Why FFMI Matters Over 50
Standard BMI is deeply flawed for masters athletes as it cannot distinguish between skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. The Fat-Free Mass Index (FFMI) provides a normalized score of muscle mass relative to height, allowing you to track whether your training is successfully mitigating age-related muscle loss (Sarcopenia).
The Kouri Normalization
This calculator applies the Kouri et al. adjustment for height, which standardizes results to a 1.8m frame. For athletes 50+, maintaining an FFMI above 20 is a primary indicator of metabolic health and functional independence.
